IELTS WRITING (PREP HINTS)

Updated: Aug 15, 2022

Writing is a continuous process and preparing for IELTS Writing should start early before your test day.

I recommend at least 5 weeks before your exam date if you're new to the writing tasks.

Don't forget that the writing tasks take an hour and depend on your IELTS Type whether academic or general training. I explained that in my last post.

How can you get the most preparation for the writing tasks?

Follow these hints:

1. WRITE A DAILY JOURNAL

If you have not engaged yourself with anything related to writing before, you can easily start with a daily journal.

A daily journal would help you establish self-awareness. You can easily write about how you spent your day (past); how you will prepare to attend a meeting (future) and also describe a place (present).

All of these are the easiest way to develop good writing skills.

2. WRITE A LETTER TO SOMEONE IN ENGLISH

If your first language isn't English, writing a letter to someone whether an English speaker or a friend who can give you constructive feedback is another way to start.

Letter writing is an aspect of task 1 if you will be taking the General Training test. Try writing about a hundred and fifty words addressing a situation.

DESCRIBE A SITUATION, SCENE, OR PLACE YOU VISIT EVERY DAY

Can you describe a situation, event, or scene you experience daily? If you can try this, you're a big step ahead. while doing this, take note of your verb tenses, modal auxiliaries, and your adjectives. They are the keys to a beautiful piece of description in your IELTS sub-skills.

WRITE A BLOG OR LEAVE COMMENTS ON A BLOG POSTS

Do you know why? I guess you don't.

Writing comments on blog posts would show a great level of comprehension of the content of the post. As you know, you can't leave a comment if you don't understand the situation discussed in the blog.

If you have a blog, keep writing.

READ PEOPLE'S POSTS OR NEWS

You can also engage yourself with your local news, and magazines written in English.

The more you read, the more familiar you get yourself with writing. The IELTS writing section requires 150 words for task one and 250 words for task two. Begin doing the above to scale through these tasks with the best.
