Are you finding it difficult to understand listening or speak well as you prepare for your IELTS?
Read this post and ask for support if need be.
Listening and speaking are interrelated and interdependent in any language learning. If you must learn how to speak a language conveniently, start listening to the language.
That is my advice for IELTS test takers who are worried about the listening and speaking sessions of the test.
The following are highly effective apps best for improving your listening and speaking. These are apps I strongly recommend.
They are the right places you can listen to undiluted English from natives and highly educated speakers.
You can download them for free on Playstore or Applestore.
BBC SOUNDS APP
Download this app on your smartphone and listen to the radio and podcasts regularly. The app contains UK Radio stations and also podcasts on interesting topics. Select one and listen to their programs and presentations regularly.
PODCASTING APPS
Another app you should lay your hands on is a good podcasting app. There are several podcasting apps but I would recommend PODBEAN, SPOTIFY and LEARN ENGLISH PODCAST by British Council. For Podbean and Spotify, you need to follow interesting programs or topics in English.
TEDx TALKS APP
I love TEDx Talks. It has varieties of English speakers and thousands of informative topics in different fields. You can't afford to skip it.
NEWS RADIO APPS
There are several radio apps but I would strongly recommend CNN AUDIO, VOA and BBC WORLD RADIO. They are the number one hub for international news and interesting podcasts. You have access to free recordings ranging from varieties of topical issues.
Regular listening to any of these apps would go a long way in developing your listening and speaking.
However, as you listen, always ask yourself these journalistic questions about the speakers and topics of discussion:
👉 Who are they?
👉 Where are they?
👉 What are they talking about?
👉 What happened?
👉 Why are they talking?
