IELTS SOURCES OF READING PASSAGES YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFOREHAND

ree

IELTS tests four language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.

Reading is a passive receptive skill. What do I mean?

While reading, you are receiving information. Not only that, you want to read to comprehend and tick the correct options during your exam.

Many test takers believe they can read but are not sure if they have developed their retentive or comprehensive skills.

Retentive skills are needed to be developed before the test date with regular practice.

In this post, I will show you sources of IELTS Reading passages I've come across in my past years of teaching IELTS.

Let's talk about these sources:

NEWSPAPERS IN ENGLISH

Newspapers are one of the sources of IELTS test questions. Some of the IELTS reading passages are selected from dailies. If you're sitting for the IELTS General, you should focus on newspaper posts like:

  1. Job Vacancies

  2. Advertisements

  3. Schedules

  4. Notice

  5. Memoranda

  6. Tourist Information

  7. Government reports

BLOGS

Reading varieties of interesting blog posts. While reading posts from blogs, endeavour to show your level of understanding by leaving comments. This aids retention skills which is very important while reading IELTS passages.

BOOKS

Another source of IELTS reading passages is from books like novels, fiction and non-fiction stories. An excerpt from the book will be taken. Getting used to books like this would enhance your reading skills.

ACADEMIC ARTICLES

If you will take IELTS academic, getting used to academic journals from any field is very crucial. You can begin from your field. Read different research reports and articles from various sources like:

  1. Education

  2. Technology

  3. IT

  4. Health

  5. Sports

  6. Food

  7. Legal research

  8. Finance
