I ran across this BBC Learning video and I feel like sharing to know your thoughts about it.
First of all, this technique is a great way to make our learners improve their diction (the right word at the right moment and situation)
Secondly, most learners would become used to current news around them and even develop an interest in journalism or any other related field.
LET'S NOW TALK ABOUT PLANNING THE CLASS
1. Ask learners to go home and write out several newspaper headlines related to the field you intend to teach .e.g economy, politics, foods, health, etc.
2. You can share with them links or popular names of news platforms where they can get this either print or online media. For instance, in Nigeria, we have The Punch Newspapers, Tribune, Sun, etc.
3. Tell them to underline keywords in the headlines. They are words that carry the message of the headlines.
4. Let them discuss these headlines. Just like in my country, there's always a newspaper spot where you see people discussing headlines. It's always an interesting place.
5. Let them form another headline/sentence with the words on their own.
6. And finally, list out all the difficult words on the board and ask your learners to look them up in the dictionary: the meanings and usage.
What's your view about this? I have attached the link to the BBC Learning video that triggers this reflection.
