Vocabulary Related to Buildings
VERANDA, BALCONY, CORRIDOR and PORCH
These words are semantically similar but aren't the same. Many students often use them interchangeably.
The explanation below should throw light on what each of the words means.
BALCONY /ˈbælkəni/
A balcony is a platform enclosed by a wall or balustrade on the outside of a building, with access from an upper-floor window or door.
See the picture below and compare it with the veranda:

VERANDA /vəˈrændə/
A veranda is a roofed platform along the outside of a house. It’s level with the ground floor and often extends across both the front and the sides of the structure. It can be partly enclosed by a railing.
See the picture below and compare it with the corridor:

CORRIDOR /ˈkɒrɪdɔː/
A corridor is a long passage in a building from which doors lead into rooms.
See the picture below and compare it with a porch:

PORCH /pɔːʧ/
A porch is a room or gallery located in front of an entrance of a building. The word "porch" is almost exclusively used for a structure that is outside the main walls of a building or house and forms a low front which could be a continuation of one's living space where one relaxes.
